World AIDS Day 2010: Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber silent on Twitter

World AIDS Day started on December 1, 1988. The theme this year focuses on "Universal Access and Human Rights." According to UNAIDS estimates, 33.3 million people are currently living with HIV.

There are a number of ways to get involved and support this cause, but celebrities like Kim Kardashian are making a special sacrifice to bring attention to the cause. She will be completely silent on Twitter and Facebook all day.

In an effort to promote AIDS awareness on World AIDS Day, Kim joins stars like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys in a Twitterless day on Wednesday, December 1.

In addition to abstaining from Twitter and Facebook, Kim is featured in an ad for Digital Life Sacrifice. Along with a slew of other celebrities, Kim posed on a coffin to symbolize her digital death. Check out the photo to the left to see Kim's ad.

As Kim signed off last night, she urged her followers to bring her back to life soon: "I'm digitally dying tonight. Please buy my life back! Let's save lives! I will miss you! #WorldAIDSDay"

The participating stars will sign back on when the Keep a Child Alive charity raises $1 million. This effort has been organized by Alicia Keys.
