It's very "Mad World"-like, same shade of blue stage, same slow and controlled performance. Man, so soulful... this is going to make Adam's fans melt. Belts out the chorus, showing off his range; the audience is just shrieking as he hits and holds the high note, looks like he's going to cry after singing that crazy note.
Not amazing for me, but better than anyone else tonight by a mile. Wow, audience erupts, Adam's just standing there beaming as his parents look on.
Randy says he "went off melody". Kara says "you're an "amazing strategist, you did your own version". Paula calls it "a brilliant choice of song and superb performance." Simon says "It was a brilliant, brilliant performance."Kara said he just proved that he can take a song and do it in a completely different way (she's just figuring that out?).
Simon says flat out it's a "brilliant" performance (and a brilliant song choice). Adds if you're not in the finals it'll be one of the biggest upsets. Uh, I couldn't think of a bigger one....
I've heard some great versions of this songs -- U2, Mary J. Blige, Johnny Cash. Adam starts it at an unbelievably subdued level. It's just gorgeous. But it doesn't last long. He goes from gorgeous to shrieky -- and, I'm sorry, I hate reverting to that over-used descriptor, but there's just no better word to describe it -- in less than two seconds. That trick has worked for a lot of the songs that he's done, but it just sounds awful here. Arrangement's great, though.
