You may remember Justin Bieber's foray into scripted TV last September on CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Thursdays, 9 p.m. ET). So… how did it go? Pretty good, apparently, because they're having him back on Feb. 17.
Sure, CSI didn't seem like a great fit for Bieber at first. Why would this baby-faced pop star appear on a such a dark and violent series when his gentle, boyish image is clearly better suited for a spot on, say, Wizards of Waverly Place? (That's where his rumored girlfriend Selena Gomez works.) Was it because Bieber was angling to break into the world of serious acting, along the lines of Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift? Would a teen-oriented show, like one on The Disney Channel or Nickelodeon, undercut his intention to be seen as a legitimate thespian?
That might have been in the back of his (or his agent's) mind. But Bieber actually answered the "why CSI?" question back in September, in the behind-the-scenes look at the episode. Turns out he and his mother are big fans of this crime drama. "Watching CSI, growing up, was really fun for me," he said. "I liked it 'cause you never knew what was gonna happen."
Bieber will reprise his role as Jason McCann, a troubled teen who may or may not be involved in a string of bombings. On Jan. 11, he tweeted a picture of himself (with a fake black eye) on set -- along with the message, "On set ... where? Let's just say I'm back to my evil ways. #badass."
Is Justin Bieber calculating something even bigger than his already-traffic-jam-inducing fame? Does he want to be a Hollywood triple threat who's utterly untouchable? There's no getting inside his cute little head, of course. One thing's for sure, though. He'll be a totally adorable triple threat.
