Probably the Only Model Missing From the Toy Scene: Barbie the Architect Posted: 02 Mar 2011 06:44 AM PST If you did not know this yet, Barbie’s latest incarnation is… an architect! Mattel recently launched the model in New York, as part of the "I Can Be…" series, which feature a variety of professions. The architect-character looks highly cheerful, seems to be very much into pink and carries a set of blueprints. We’ve read some funny comments saying that the model is not realistic, as its face looks very fresh when it should have actually been dark and tired-looking, with bags under the eyes. We don’t know about you guys, but to us it doesn’t seem like she’s too much into CAD either. We featured this post on Freshome, as we believe this could make for a fun and funny gift in the field of architecture. We are looking forwards to your opinions and comments on how believable this architect Barbie doll really is.

Spectacular Waterfront Residence with Infinity Pool in Miami Beach Posted: 02 Mar 2011 04:13 AM PST Villa Valentina is an impressive looking modern residence situated in Miami Beach, Florida, United States. You are looking at a glamorous home featuring no less than 6 bathrooms and 6 bedrooms. Its multi-level terraces and wide windows allow unobstructed views of the beautiful bay, while the strategically placed patio furniture ensures unforgeable moments outdoors- as if the beach were not close enough. Moreover, this building’s amenities include an entertainment center, a business center, home theater, wine cellar, state-of-the-art kitchen equipment (we would be really interested to know who thinks of cooking while renting an incredibly expensive villa for a few days, meals included), barbecue and parking for six cars. This home is currently available for rent, for the opulent cost of $6000 – $11100 per night and the villa policies don’t allow more than 14 guests at once. Slightly overpriced, but the interiors are quite inspiring, have a look!

Emotional Art Project Drawing Attention to One’s Life Objectives Posted: 02 Mar 2011 01:51 AM PST Before I Die…in Nola is an interesting project belonging to public installation artist and urban planner Candy Chang. The artist managed to turn one of the walls of an abandoned house in New Orleans into a massive chalkboard where the residents can write their life-long dreams. This is also a call to action, as the first one has to do when chasing a dream is to identify it. Here is more from the project developer: “It's about turning a neglected space into a constructive one where we can learn the hopes and aspirations of the people around us. It turns out this entire process has been a great lesson, experience, and project in itself – more on that later. If you're in New Orleans, stop by the corner of Marigny and Burgundy (900 Marigny St) to add your thoughts to the wall and see what matters most to your neighbors. The responses and stories from passers-by while we were installing it have already hit me hard in the heart."

Walk the Talk: Air Force 1s Turned into Sneaker Speakers by Nahmoney Posted: 02 Mar 2011 12:45 AM PST We have to say we featured quite a few odd looking speakers on Freshome, but this we did not expect. Seen on Incredible Things, the Sneaker Speakers were born by transforming a simple white-on-white pair of Air Force 1 (the famous shoes branded “Nike”) into an intriguing sound system. The makeover was conducted by Alex Nash also known as Nashmoney, a London designer hooked on athletic footwear. With integrated speakers, knobs, dials and input sockets, this set seems to have all it takes in order to get a party going. To top it all, each sneaker has its own classy wooden support, an addition that looks interesting to say the least. So if at first the idea of working at a laptop between two shoes didn’t seem so appealing, after analyzing the add-ons that these sneakers were supplied with, we have to say we are definitely for. What is your stand?

Mixture of Old and New: Duo Cabinet by Maak Design Studio Posted: 01 Mar 2011 10:30 AM PST Combining old and new is not only a job for interior designers, it has become an inspiration to furniture designers, too. This beautiful cabinet created by MaaK design studio was named DUO: a perfect title for such a versatile piece of furniture combining two worlds of inspiration into one. A modern approach to the lessons learned in the past, the DUO cabinet is made from an old cabinet integrated into a contemporary piece. Both sides of the furniture have storage spaces: the modern part has a drop-down door while the old part has two classic drawers. MaaK knows what the furniture market lacks: “Within today’s busy society, the human needs memories, affection and rustic accents from the past. “MaaK” transforms inherited furniture into a modern design without losing its value and fits in the modern interiors of today.”
