This rather lengthy Vanity Fair piece by Michael Lewis is one of the best explanations I've ever read about the collective German psyche, and how that unwittingly contributed (and is still contributing) to the worldwide economic collapse.

Highly recommended reading. As someone who grew up in Germany, I can tell you it rang very true to me.
