NPR Fires Opera Host

They didn't fire her because of her work on the Opera show. They fired her for joining in the Occupation Washington rallies, which NPR says violates their code of ethics. (Details are here.)

I really don't have a problem with this. If you remember, NPR made a big deal out of their code of ethics last year during the Jon Stewart rally. Memos went out threatening termination to anyone that appeared there. This host can't really pretend to be blindsided by this. You may think the rule against appearing at any political rally is anti-American, or overly cautious, but you can't claim that you didn't know the rule existed. It was in the all the newspapers. I knew it existed, and I've never worked for NPR.

Some of the left wing media blogs are upset about this because Fox News didn't react this way during the Tea Party rallies when their people openly participated and helped organize those rallies.

But it's apples and oranges. There are two big differences. For one thing, Fox doesn't have a show that ties in to politics as closely as this opera show does (that's a joke, my conservative friends, a joke). For another, they don't actually have a code of ethics (and that's not a joke), so no violations occurred.
