jessica simpson swimwear

One door closes, another opens ...

In the same week Jessica Simpson saw her country music career take a nosedive, the Miss USA pageant put contestants in itsty-bitsy, teeny-weeny bikinis she designed.

Jessica Simpson's swimwear range is to be featured in the Miss Universe contest.

Contestants taking part in the renowned beauty pageant on Sunday will don white and gold skimpy bikinis from the singer-and-actress' eponymous line.

The Jessica Simpson Collection is the official sponsor of this year's competition, taking the place of Syrup Swimwear which gave contestants suits for the last two years.

According to New York's Daily News, "Identical $104 white 'n' gold string bikinis were especially created for the contest, as well as the $88 bright green string bikinis modeled by the crown-chasers during a pre-pageant photo shoot in Las Vegas."

Why go with Simpson's designs?

"Why not?" publicist Lark-Marie Anton told the Daily News. "They're fabulous swimsuits."

Jessica said: "I want to create clothes that flatter every figure. I know how a dress can make you feel so frumpy. I promise mine won't. I've been judged a lot in my life. By now I know what works if you're curvy."

Simpson split with her Nashville recording studio this week and is thought to be taking a break from recording.
